Staycationing: El Paso Edition

Staycationing: El Paso Edition

As we initiate our summer festivities with summer camps, kids activities, and hopefully travel to abroad destinations, El Paso offers the short getaway to relax and explore the city as a permanent tourist.

We like to refer to this as a stay·ca·tion; a vacation spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions. Let’s get started with a tour of staple sites around our city!

Tradition is the golden word here in our city, one of its variations goes by the name of L&J Café. Dating back to 1927 originally known as “Tony’s Place,” this food joint mixes the traditional flavors of hispanic cuisine with some of the more prevalent flavors of our generation. Nestled in the central area of El Paso, you can catch these guys at 3622 E Missouri Ave, El Paso, TX 79903. If you feel like exploring the menu beforehand, this menu link https://ljcafe.com/ will help you ease into the explosion of flavors and traditions this place has offered our Sun City for decades.

Feeling a bit more adventurous with a need to show off your summer bod whilst having great drinks and hip accommodations? Head over to Hotel Indigo’s open terrace bar and mingling area on its 4th floor, where you can find their cabanas and lounging areas fit for your staycation. You can find excellent deals on rooms at Hotel Indigo if you book at least two weeks in advance. Feeling like your IG is missing a new caption? Make your way down to the ground level, where you can find yourself walking into one of the most chic restaurants in the downtown area, Mamacitas. With a very feminine, soft moroccan feel to it, your camera will have no problem with capturing the best pictures whilst enjoying an aesthetically pleasing and flavorful meal.

Whether you are staycationing for one, two, or three days during the summer months, we can assume that you also need a little adrenaline to keep you motivated throughout this experience. If you aren’t quite ready to jump off planes, we highly recommend you visit iFly on the west side of town. With a state-of-the-art wind tunnel and modern architecture, you can sure fill your thrill tank with this indoor skydiving activity that will leave you with a personalized certificate of achievement.

The inevitable heat is here, we hope you make the most out of your summer break!
